What Is the Kingdom of God and How Do We Live in It?

The Heavenly Kingdom!.

Hey Beloved!

After our discussion on the End Times and the call to vigilance, it's so important to fix our eyes on the glorious, unshakeable reality that underpins all of our hope: God's Kingdom! This isn't just a future dream; it's a present reality we can experience and a future certainty we can count on. So, let's dive in and discover more about this magnificent Kingdom and how we can live as its citizens today!

What is This Kingdom We Talk About?

When Jesus began His earthly ministry, His message was electrifying: 📖 Mark 1:15 (KJV) – "...The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel." The Kingdom wasn't just a far-off promise; it had drawn near in the person of the King Himself, Jesus Christ!

But what is its nature? Jesus clarified, 📖 John 18:36 (KJV): "My kingdom is not of this world..." It's not a political or earthly domain in the way humans understand power structures. Instead, as Paul describes it, 📖 Romans 14:17 (KJV) tells us, "For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost." It's a spiritual realm, an experience of God's rule and reign in our hearts, bringing His divine qualities into our lives.

And where is it found? Jesus surprised many by saying, 📖 Luke 17:20-21 (KJV): "...the kingdom of God cometh not with observation: Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you." It's a present, internal reality accessible to those who belong to Him!

Seeking and Entering The Kingdom

Living as a citizen of this Kingdom is our highest priority. Jesus commanded, 📖 Matthew 6:33 (KJV): "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."

Entry requires a heart transformation. The call is to "repent ye, and believe the gospel" (Mark 1:15). It's not an automatic inheritance for everyone; 📖 1 Corinthians 6:9 (KJV) reminds us, "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived..." Our entry is through faith in Christ and the new birth He provides.

Quick Question: When you think of "God's Kingdom," do you primarily see it as a future place, or as a present reality you can experience now? How can we cultivate these attributes "righteousness, peace, and joy" in our daily lives?

Life as a Kingdom Citizen: Authority and Proclamation

As citizens of this heavenly Kingdom, we are not passive bystanders. Jesus gave His disciples (and by extension, us) "the keys of the kingdom of heaven" (📖 Matthew 16:19 KJV), indicating an authority to operate in His name, binding and loosing according to His will. We are also called to proclaim it! Paul boldly preached "the kingdom of God, and teaching those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ, with all confidence..." (📖 Acts 28:31 KJV).

God's sovereign rule underpins everything. 📖 Psalm 103:19 (KJV) declares, "The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all."

The Future Glory: An Unshakeable, Everlasting Kingdom!

While the Kingdom is a present reality, it also has a glorious future consummation that we eagerly await. The prophets foretold it:

One day, the trumpets will sound, and 📖 Revelation 11:15 (KJV) will be fulfilled: "...The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever."

This culminates in the breathtaking vision of 📖 Revelation 21-22 (KJV), where we see a new heaven and a new earth, the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, where God Himself will dwell with His people, and there will be no more death, sorrow, crying, or pain. This is the ultimate inheritance prepared for us "from the foundation of the world" (📖 Matthew 25:34 KJV), where people "shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God" (📖 Luke 13:28-29 KJV).

Scripture Meditation: Our Eternal Inheritance

Let your heart soar as you meditate on this promise:

📖 Matthew 25:34 (KJV) – "Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world."

Consider the depth of God's love and forethought – your place in His eternal Kingdom was prepared before the world even began! How does this truth fill you with awe and gratitude?

Final Thoughts: Living the Kingdom Life Now!

Beloved, God's Kingdom is not just a theological concept; it's the very atmosphere of heaven that we can breathe in today, and the glorious reality that awaits us for eternity.
